what we believe

The First Congregational Church of Laurel, Montana, firmly believes in the following basic foundation of faith.

FATHER - The Creator and Maker of Heaven and earth.

SON - The virgin-born, who lived, suffered, was crucified, dead, buried and resurrected on the third day. His Ascension, Second Coming and His promise of Life after Death to all believers are believed to be scripturally true.

HOLY SPIRIT - Eternally co-existent with the Father and the Son, who promised thus, “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me” (John 15:26). The indwelling person of the Godhead, is the Comforter to the church.

The Bible is the authoritative, inspired and inerrant Word of God which speaks to all people of all cultures at all times as recorded both in the Old and the New Testaments.

Baptism is a sign of obedience to Jesus’ command. “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved and whoever does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:16). Water is an outward symbol. As it cleanses the body, so does the blood on the Cross of Calvary cleanses the soul. Baptism by faith in Jesus Christ, therefore, cleanses a believer from his/her sins and unrighteousness.

The Church is a body of believers who are equipped to “go out” witnessing and touching lives. It is a place where God’s love is both acclaimed and proclaimed, a fellowship where God’s kingdom is enhanced. It is the body whose Head is the Christ and whose members are integrally united as forgiven sinners.
